Canyon Lake Fishing Guides Report
Canyon Lake for the week of March 9, 2010

Please Note:  The following boat ramps are currently closed: #3 Comal Park East, #4 Comal Park West, #10 Cranes Mill Park and #18 Canyon Park Campground. The courtesy boat dock at ramp #21 is closed. Fishing piers at Potter's Creek and Cranes Mill are open. Cranes Mill Park is closed for renovations. For further updates, please call the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Canyon Lake office at 830-964-3342. Please boat safely and always remember to wear your life jacket!

Water Clarity: Stained Water Temp: 52 Current Level: 909.33 (Conservation Pool: 909.0 ft. msl)  

Largemouth Bass:  Fair to 4 lbs. early on crawfish ½ oz. Pour Man’s football jigs with watermelon red 4” Berkley chigger craw trailers over deep structures in 20-30 feet and later on whacky rigged watermelon cream 5” Yamamoto senkos on main lake and secondary points in 5-20 feet.

Smallmouth Bass:  Fair to 3 lbs. on pumpkinseed ¼ oz. Berkley Ike's finesse jigs with Calif 420 Reaction Innovations smallie beaver trailers, trophy hunter Grande Bass baby rattlesnakes and watermelon red River2Sea Stand'n Yabbie 50 over rock piles and along bluffs in 12-20 feet.

White Bass:  Excellent on chartreuse or black shad 2” Berkley power minnows, large live minnows and live crickets upriver or in back of major coves in 2-8 feet.

Crappie:  Fair on white crappie jigs tipped with live minnows around brush piles and submerged trees off main lake points and upriver in 4-6 feet.

Striped Bass:  Fair trolling bleeding tiger Rapala deep tail dancers or ghost bass Strike Pro flex phantoms, vertically jigging chartreuse/silver 1-1/2 oz. Terminator pirk minnows or perch Bagley jigging minnows on main lake points and drifting hybrid bluegill or shad around the dam at night in 15-20 feet.

Perch:  Good on live crickets.

Channel Catfish:  Fair on Lewis King’s punch bait or Big Marv's cheese bait in 6-20 feet.

Blue and Yellow Catfish:  Fair on trotlines and juglines baited with hybrid bluegill or shad gizzard in 10-30 feet.
