CAPTAIN LYNDA HAWKINS GUIDE SERVICE @ 352-669-0432 or cell phone at (352) 267-0062 - Captain Lynda reports the water is still really cold which slows the bass fishing down considerably but the speck fishing is great. Most bass haven't gone on the beds yet but with this warmer weather they will during the new moon. On a recent 3 day trip to Stickmarsh, my clients caught 23 to 25 nice bass every day with the largest one weighing 8.7 pounds and several 6 pounders.  Dustin Hegstrom, a super 7 year old caught two 6 pound plus bass. He fished hard for 8 hours and caught & released lots of nice bass. His father, Craig caught a beautiful 8.7 pounder. Dustin was a dream to fish with and one special young man who never quite trying.

To locate specks fish along the grass lines or lily pads with a jig tipped with a minnow.  The Harris Chain is giving up some large specks out of the North side of Lake Eustis, the Dead River, Lakes Dora & Carlton and Little Lake Harris.  Same areas are good for bass fishing. I've been using two different worms quite a lot recently and they are producing well, one is a Senko and the other is a 7 inch Bass Assassin worm in the old faithful colors of June bug with a blue tail.  When fishing the Senko, rig it Texas style with no weight and just cast it out and let it sink naturally. It's a fairly heavy worm and easy to cast but sinks fairly slow. I still use the same 4-inch Junebug, red shad or watermelon red worms that I've been using all year either rigged Texas or Carolina. A Rat-L-Trap fished as slow as possible is my artificial bait of choice this time of year.  My favorite colors are chrome green or firetiger. Be sure to get a good map so you can locate the prime areas to fish.  It will show you which areas are the best and believe it or not the areas marked are great fishing spots.  I leave my depth finder on and constantly check it for a drop in depth or to see if it's showing fish.  If you are after a trophy bass be sure to try shiner fishing.  Either rig the shiner with a bobber or try fishing it like a Carolina rig with a small split shot or weight.  Be sure to use fairly heavy line. I personally like Team Fish Camo Line in 20 pound test.

West Lake is still producing lots of nice bass and specks. The draw down has been canceled so the water level is good and there is still plenty of running water to be found. Large stringers of bass are coming from the North area out of the town of Kissimmee fishing the deeper water hydrilla.  For more information or to book a trip, call me or send an e-mail at LLH30@aol.com .

Date Fished: 1/27/03
Water Temperature: 56
Water Clarity: 0

Yesterday 1-26-03 was what I call an easy and great day of fishing. I guided Steve and Monte of Tenn and 35 fish were caught and we never moved the boat from are starting point. No big fish but lots of 2 to 4 pounders and all were caught on 10 lb mono with light spinning tackle and med shiners. The fish are bunched up in the deep holes on Lake Conway 15 to 25 ft deep.Artificial baits are not working period as we had a half dozen local fisherman fishing around us and on top of us and never seen them get a bite.Take lots of shiners as we went through 60 shiners in 5 hours on the trip above.

Till my next report Ed Bussard and Bass Challenger thank you all for fishing with us at
