Garcia Reservoir

Hello Friends - Saturday the 23rd of November was a poor fishing day in these parts folks. A cold front had just left us and the sky was very high. Temps started out in the high forties and rose all morning long. The lake of choice was Garcia Reservoir and the plan was to shiner fish for bass and lots of them. Well, even the best laid plans can go bad when your dealing with mother nature.  My guest fished hard all morning long. Never less than four shiners in the water at any given time with spot after spot fished. Both ends of the lake were covered with little to show for our efforts. The total for the day 5 bass and 7 pickerel with 2 mud fish. The trophy fish of the day was a 10lbs mudder. Man these are the days I feel like crawling in a hole. Luckily it doesn't happen very often in this part of the country. Now I have to admit they missed a lot of bites but in all honesty I believe they were mostly pickerel. The back-up plan was to fish with some minnows and catch small bass or specks if the shiners failed to produce. The minnows only produced one very small bass. The overall bite was very poor. The lake is still full of hydrilla with the center ditch blocked. Use the front canal to navigate to the North end of the lake. The water level is close to normal. Parking was available and the restrooms were clean. If your planning on fishing in this area Gracia is still a good choice for a day or two of good fishing just try and plan around the high pressure. Be careful and stick to the canals and open areas. Venturing out into the hydrilla will cause more problems than it is worth for the average fisherman.

On the water with Eddie and Ross from V. I. Pruitt & Sons Hosiery for a half day of shiner fishing. We began fishing the horse track with little success for the first hour, then off to the SE corner of "the pit" where we fished the shiners up against the hydrilla and hyacinth matts in 11' of water. We did not move again until we left at 11am, we got 16 fish in 3 hours from "the pit" and missed several others.

The reservoir has obviously been heavily sprayed and has the ugliest water I have ever seen there but the fish bit anyways.

Overall, Garcia Reservoir is about 3,000 acres of beautiful surroundings completely different in appearance than the Stick Marsh/ Farm 13 Reservoir. A GPS is nice here as it is much more confusing to get around .

Check it out, be safe !!!
