NORTHEAST ARKANSAS - Weekly Fishing Report

Arkansas Game and Fish Commission

This is the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission's fishing report

May 21, 2003

Fishing Tip: Fly fishing for trout can be described as a constant dance with your fly rod, so don't ignore the importance of stripping line. Always strip line in as the fly floats in your direction. Keep as little slack in the line as possible. When a fish takes the fly, seldom does a fisherman have time to lift all of the extra slack to set the hook, before the fish swims happily away.

NORTHEAST ARKANSAS

White River: Local fisherman Jeff Moore said the White River at Batesville is at 9.55 feet and falling. The river is basically too muddy to fish from recent rains, except for catfish. There have been some good reports of nice stringers of catfish being caught below Lock #2 on grubs and worms. Most of the fish have been caught near the mouth of the creeks and springs that run into the river. The river needs a few days to clear for all other fishing to pick-up.
Lake Charles: Powhatan Landing said bluegill fishing is good with crickets and wax worms. Crappie fishing is fair using minnows or jigs. Catfishing is good with trotlines baited with rice slicks.
Black River: Powhatan Landing said the river is muddy and fishing is slow.
Spring River: Many Islands Camp said the trout fishing is good using salmon eggs and corn. Goggle eye fishing is good with worms.
