Fishing Report - Black Bass:
The lake
at normal pool is 315.0 but as of today the level is 312.90
which is about 2-1/4 ft low. You really need to pay attention
where you run still. There is a timber right under the
water line and if you’re not careful it will
hit it. All the fish are starting to move up and head towards
the backs of the creeks. I have been seeing the sand bass
are starting to run the creeks. This is a good sign that
the shad is moving in the creeks. We have been targeting
the main lake points and working the creek towards a secondary
point. We are fishing are shallow, rattle baits, and cranks
(citrus), if the lake has some chop pick up a S.O.B mini
me spinnerbait. Check site www.soblures.com. 3/8oz white
with nickel willow blades have been working on over cast
days. If the sun is out, change up to gold willow blades.
You can use these baits to find the fish a lot faster than
pitch soft plastic baits. Note: if you find a short fish
with the fast moving baits. The go back thru with some soft
plastic and start back at the main point and move out into
a little deeper water, three or four feet is all you need.
The bigger fish are very close to moving up and towards the
backs of the creeks.
Check
out lily pad cove which is Big Buck Cove on an AID map,
or church cove. There are some docks on the left hand side
that have pads all around them. Also across the cove there
are two creeks and both having pads, in the coves? Some
of the baits that have been working will in the pads in
the morning were Tru-Tungsten Mad Maxx frog. These frogs
that came out this year have a rattle in them already.
Also an Xxploding Toad from Kicker Fish has been working
well. You want to start and stop the bait; it seems the
bite is coming on the pause. The color on the Xxploding
Toad is a Watermelon Red, with a pearl belly and all black.
This area has been hit and miss, better on a cool morning
with sun. If it’s
over cast in the morning, very slow. But in the afternoon
with it being over cast it has been good with the Kicker
Fish Xploaded Toad.
Also pay attention to the docks, the docks that are close
to deep water have been holding some pretty good fish. More
so on the outside post, check out the Blue House dock. As
you head in the backs of the creeks, watch your graph and
if the water temp rises then stop going back. The fish will
not be heading back then.
The ramps that are in good shape at Oak Cove Marina. The
public ramps that are use able is 309 but you need to be
careful running out from the ramp. There are some shallow
spots you need to be aware of.
If you have any questions or help please drop me a line.
If you’re on the water and you get hungry, try the
restaurant at Oak Cove Marina off the Hwy 287 Bridge to the
south. They have some of the best hamburgers and catfish
on the water, and they’ve just added some terrific
homemade desserts. They also have motel rooms, R.V. hook-ups,
fishing pier, camping and gas on the water. To contact Oak
Cove about tournaments, guide service or rooms, call 903-872-0888.
Be
careful on the water, as you know there are no true boat
lanes on the lake. If you have any questions please give
me a call or drop me an e-mail. We also have a video out
on the lake, which is a great tool to see the lake before
you burn a tank of gas to find the fish. Check out my website www.schmidtsbigbass.com also
in closing I would like to say that some of the products
in this report could be found at you can also find these
Products at Bass Pro, Cabelas ad Academy Outdoors & Sports.
And
always please wear a life jacket when running the big
motor and kill switch. And please drink plenty water or Gatorade
during the Hot Summer months. I have included the number
for the Tarrant water Authority, (903) 389-3928 this will
allow to see how many gates are open prior to going to the
lake after it had rained.
