St
Johns River
The
water is on the rise and the fish are feeding very well. The past
couple days we have been catching some very nice schooling fish in
the mornings and then flipping main river pads after the sun gets
up. Jack Goldsmith of TN caught this beautiful 9 3/4 pound bass
flipping a Producto Crawdad yesterday with Capt Ed Bussard on the
main River. Schooling fish with hit a topwater bait when chasing
shad and a texas rigged worm when they are near the bottom.I still
have days open in August and September. This area of the St Johns
River Is Only Minutes From Orlando, Disney World and Daytona Beach.

The water is on the rise and the fishing is getting better by the day.As the current pick's up the rising water will force more and more baitfish from shallow areas of the river. These areas will be found by looking for cuts in the bank made from pasture land that has flooded and is now draining into the main river channel.
There are still plenty of shad in the river and the fish are schooling during the early morning hours. My clients yesterday David Vance and son Jordan age 8 of Tampa took advantage of my 4 hr special and had a good trip catching 7 fish on artificial baits. The day before I fished a few hrs by myself in the am and caught 12 fish up to 4 pounds. Topwater High Roller 3.25's and a white fluke have been best for the schooling fish and a texas rigged worm fished out in front of the cuts leading from the flooded pastures has been the best
way for me to catch some nice fish in the 3 to 6 pound range. As the water gets higher the BIG FLIPPING fish will start to appear on a regular basis along the main river channel. Last August was a great time for catching
fish in the 7 to 11 pound range as the water levels were on the rise. The picture in this report is one of my great regular clients Chip Bennett from a trip last August. This fish weighed in at 10 pounds on the boga grip. Take a look at the 2008 TROPHY PAGE at www.basschallenger.com
and I hope to see your picture on there soon!!

The
past week has been some of the best summertime bass fishing you
could ask for on the St Johns River. The schooling fish are hitting
topwater baits early in the morning and later in the day deepwater wood
has been great for bigger fish in the 5 to 8 pound range.
My good friend Gary Clark fished with me for 6 hrs and between the two of us
15 fish made it to the boat and I broke off two very big fish in wood off the
main river channel. Bob and Carolann Armstrong of Chicago were
hear for there regular summertime trip today and caught some very
nice fish to six pounds on artificial baits. Topwater walking baits
have been best for the schooling fish in the morning and a 6 inch
Texas rigged Junebug worm has been the best bait later in the day
around deep fallen trees in the main river channel. Bob and his son Jake fished
a fullday trip this week and had a tough day as the schooling fish
just wouldn't stay hooked up after exploding on topwater baits
total for the day was 10 fish with a four pounder being the biggest.
