WEST POINT LAKE IS FULL, CLEAR & 84 DEGREES BY CHRIS BRACKETT

Bass fishing has been great this week. Fish are in here summertime pattern holding on deep brush piles and ledges in 17-25 feet of water. The bait to use is 10 ribbon tail worm fished on a Carolina rig with a fluorocarbon leader. Good places to fish are deep roadbeds, shoal markers, and the mouths of the smaller creeks. The top water bite is still very strong in the mid lake area around rocky flats and shallow timber. I like a Rebel Pop-R in the shad patterns or a 3/8 ounce Lunker Lure Buzz bait if the water is a little choppy. Also keep a Norman DD-22 crank bait on to fish the deeper points and ledges lake wide for some good action.

Hybrids and striper fishing has been really good. Fish are biting very good around the pumping stations in the river right now on Pop n Corks and shallow jerk baits. Shad fishing is still the best way to catch the fish lake wide by using down lines. Down lake fish are moving around a lot so you have to watch your fish finder to stay on them. This week the fish have been in the tree tops and on the flats next to the channel. Healthy bait is a must right now and if your shad are getting red nosed your losing out on some great bites. For any questions about keeping your shad healthy or alive please call the Highland Marina Resort or check out my website at www.westpointstripers.com

Crappie are holding in deep water around brush and bridge columns. The fishing has been tough during the day but night time has been great. Live minnows are the go to bait right now but smaller jigs are working well also if you have the patience to let them sink slow around deep blow downs. If you are planning a trip after dark, make sure to have lights out for best results. Good area's to fish this week has been Whitewater Creek, Rainbow Creek and the mouth of the Wilson creek around the tree tops.
