Yum If it ain’t YUM, it’s dead!

In pharmacy school, I had classes that spent hours talking about sedimentation rates, oil and water emulsions, and solubility. I never thought I would be able to use that knowledge to become a better bass fisherman. Now, I will not bore you with the above mathematical formulas but I will tell you that YUM has done its homework.

Why use scent? What makes scent important to a bass fisherman?

            Bass like most creatures of this world have a greater sense of smell than man. Bass locate live prey with their sense of smell. It is similar to you passing a bakery and smelling the fresh bread. The smell focuses the attention of the fish towards the area of the bait. The chemoreceptor organs of a bass are part of its predatory life. Fish are continually using their noses so to speak for protection and feeding.

            Use YUM on any bait from plastics, jigs, spinnerbaits, and more. My favorite way to use the attractant is with tube baits in thick cover. A tube with a coating of YUM slide through the thick cover better than baits without attractants. Adding a coating of YUM to the first twelve inches of your line will help guide the lure over submerged limbs, too. Although it is essential for wintertime jig fishing, it is great on hardbaits, too. I will add a squirt to all my lures, even crankbaits and topwater lures.
